A New Short Story on the way-- for FREE!

I haven't updated the blog in awhile, so I figured it was time.  I've had a very tumultuous couple of months since my last post.  In January, my chocolate lab Luna, who was the inspiration for Andromeda in A Reflection of Strange October, was diagnosed with lymphoma.  Unfortunately it was in an advanced stage and on February 8th, I had to have her put to sleep.  It was one of the hardest days of my life.  She was an amazing dog and companion and I miss her every single day.  She was only 4 years old, so it was a complete shock.

Through all of that, writing helped me to cope, but I've been so busy that I haven't been able to write as much as I wanted.  I did, however, finish a new short story that I will be giving away for free.  This new short story is titled The Adventures of Buttercup & Mr. Wiggles: Attack of the Evil RoboVac.  I understand that's a mouthful, but it's actually one short story in a series of short stories following the lives of a yellow lab Buttercup and a fluffy cat named Mr. Wiggles.  This particular story chronicles what happens when their owner, Paul Foster, brings home a RoboVac to clean the home automatically.  Mayhem ensues.  Once my dad finishes the cover for the story, I will be uploading it to Smashwords and any other site that will allow me to offer a free ebook.

On the novel front, I've decided to scrap Threshold and start over.  Again.  This time will be the last time.  I've generated tons of notes for this new version and I think overall it will be far more solid than the draft I had finished before.  It's disheartening to scrap a 300+ page story, especially after putting so much work into it, but I just felt it was weak.  I lost track of what I originally wanted the story to be.  I wanted something light hearted and fun to read, but it had turned into something a little too dark and serious.  I will post some chapters soon as I finish them for some feedback.

I'm also very deep into another novel tentatively titled Among the Shoulders of the World.  I have all the notes and maps and everything else already generated and have written nearly 100 pages.  I'd say I'm nearing 40-50% completion of the first draft.  It's a first person sci-fi/fantasy story told by Sky Captain Lucas Vega, who pilots a sky ship on the planet Mobeus.  The planet is no ordinary planet--enormous giants of earth and stone wander the planet's surface and on the shoulders of those giants, civilization thrives.  There is magic.  There is advanced technology.  There are magical artifacts and treasures.  There is political intrigue, deception and all of that fun stuff.  It's been a fun one to write and I can't wait to finish it and share it with everyone.

I will post the appropriate links to Attack of the RoboVac once everything is finished and polished up.  Thanks for taking the time to visit my site.

Until next time,
-D
